ST. PETERSBURG, FL– March 11, 2009 – Photo Science's Gary R. Florence, Manager of the St. Petersburg office, has been elected as the Vice President of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS). Gary will serve as VP in 2009, President Elect in 2010 and President in 2011.
Gary has been an active member of ASPRS since 1982, serving the Florida Region as Director, Secretary / Treasurer, Vice President, President and Past President. He then served as the National Director for the ASPRS Florida Region. Gary has participated on a variety of committees and served as the Chairman of the 2007 Annual Conference held in Tampa, Florida. Gary holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, a Master of Science degree from the International Institute for Geo-information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) in the Netherlands, is an ASPRS Certified Photogrammetrist and is a Licensed Photogrammetric Surveyor in South Carolina, Oregon and Virginia.
As Vice President of the ASPRS, Gary pledges to work with the entire ASPRS membership and staff to promote the effective, efficient and responsible use of geospatial technology to support the public good and he will continue to promote the overall professionalism of the Society; supporting both certification and licensure. Gary believes that diversity and growth of the Society’s membership brings new ideas and perspectives to the organization, helping ASPRS stay relevant today and tomorrow. As Vice President, he plans to continue to promote the Society’s on-going efforts to recruit and retain a diverse membership.
